SolarSense in 2025: New rules for Minnesota Power rebate program

Minnesota Power will accept applications for its SolarSense rebate program starting March 1, and there are some important changes to the program this year.
SolarSense is a lottery-based system that allows Minnesota Power customers who install solar on their home or business to get a production-based rebate from the utility. The max rebate is $5,000.
This year, however, customers who make more than 150% of the area median income are not eligible for the rebate. Minnesota Power is also putting priority on disadvantaged and tribal areas.
Applicants will self-report their income, and Minnesota Power reserves the right to verify income to determine rebate eligibility.
Minnesota Power has about $87,000 available for SolarSense rebates. The rebate amount is determined by taking the annual expected production of the system and multiplying it by 27 cents. A system that’s expected to produce 10,000 kWh in a year, for example, would receive a $2,700 rebate.
The application window will be open for three business days and will close March 5.
